In order to be able to provide the desired care in optimum working conditions, O.L.V. van Lourdes hospital will have to expand in order to be able to relocate or refurbish a number of medical units, parts of medical units, nursing units and part of the polyclinic. The increase in the number of beds in the polyclinic means that the construction of additional operating rooms is required. The administration also needs more space in the hospital. Additional meeting and consultation rooms are also required. Parts of the existing building will be renovated in order to meet these requirements. Prior to the works in the existing hospital, the building will be extended with a new building wing, with 4 floors. Prior to the elaboration of the Master Plan, O.L.V. van Lourdes already commissioned a number of works itself: - polyclinic (execution and acceptance May '05) - meeting room (execution and acceptance May '05) - pharmacy (execution and acceptance September '05)

The design and the construction of the new hospital make up the second phase of a master plan for the entire campus that had been approved one year earlier. This second Master Plan charted the campus's evolution for the next ten years. Naturally, this is a flexible plan that can be adapted to potential changes in requirements and insights. The building will house three large functional units. The first unit fulfils the hospital function per se with 135 individual rooms subdivided into five living units. In view of the fact that this is a psychiatric hospital, a living unit consists of a number of rooms linked to living spaces and which can function independently. The second functional unit is the therapeutic centre. This is a collection of medical and paramedical functions that are essential in the operation of a psychiatric hospital. The general administration of the entire OPZ is the third functional unit to be accommodated in the building. This function is overarching and, as a result, less implicated in the daily operations of the other units.

St. Elisabeth's Hospital has 369 beds as well as a large polyclinic, an emergency ward, all the required medical-technical services and a convent. All of the hospital buildings were built in the 1950s. In order to be able to meet contemporary hospital requirements, a radical renovation was necessary. From a civil engineering point of view, the works are extraordinarily complex because the hospital remains fully operational during the implementation of the project. The design takes into account the vision on a healing environment and translates patient-directed care in a spatial manner, within the frame of an existing structure and a strictly limited budget. Creating architecture for such complex programmes, in which an inordinately high number of parties is involved, requires considerable management discipline on behalf of the designer.

Virga Jesse Hospital is a public general hospital, which provides all specialised medical care to patients in Hasselt and the surrounding area. Next to this, the hospital also provides a top-class clinical offer for a large part of the Province of Limburg. Virga Jesse Hospital has 567 beds and thus ranks among the larger Flemish hospitals. Every year, it welcomes approx. 20,000 patients for a hospital stay. On 7 January, 2004, the Board of Governors confirmed the competition jury's decision that the temporary association "FDA - Baumschlager & Eberle - De Gregorio & Partners - Technum" was the laureate of the competition. The assignment entails the Master Plan for the hospital's reconditioning, including the associated subprojects.

The newly merged hospital, on the fringe of the city, is an amalgam of four existing Kortrijk hospitals. The underlying concept is that of a health village, in which the treatment of sick people is embedded in an extensive package of associated activities. The environment is designed to avoid any additional stressful stimuli for sick people. To this end all spaces where patients or employees spend extensive amounts of time have direct daylight and a view of the exterior space. All the roofs are green roofs. The identical façade elements serve to enhance the general impression of calm thanks to their depth of field and their light colours. All internal traffic - of patients, visitors and logistics - takes place via separate circulation routes. The entire building is structured in the same manner. Prefab façade elements and the central feature of two rows of columns bear post-tensioned concrete slabs that were poured on site. Not a single hanging beam was used. As a result, the ceiling is completely level and all ducts are concentrated in centralised duct shafts. This means that any later changes will not entail expensive structural consequences.

KPC was given temporary accommodations for a ten-year period in a building of the Oost-Limburg Hospital. As a separate organisation, it now needs to build its own infrastructure. The starting point is to lower the threshold and provide better access to child psychiatry services. KPC wishes to be a reference as regards child and youth psychiatric care in Limburg and in Flanders. The building has a transit function for the children and teens that visit it together with their parents. The aim is to create the most suitable space for their healing process: a healing environment. The building is easy to oversee, but also has clear boundaries. The direct relation between interior space and exterior space is highly defining: any age group of residents - whether toddlers/preschoolers, primary school children or young people - has an exterior space that is part of their living space but which is also demarcated in and through the exterior space, thus contributing to the sense of privacy. The integration in the landscape of the buildings in St John's Campus is continued: living groups (privacy) that have been organically integrated into the landscape; above them is a transparent public accessible upper layer, which is visible from the ZOL (access, polyclinic, administration). KPC wishes to provide a professional and comfortable working environment in which employees can develop themselves.

AZ St.-Maarten, campus Mechelen is één van de twee ziekenhuizen die onder deze naam werkzaam zijn, het andere ziekenhuis is gelegen in Duffel. Het project betreft een uitbreiding van de dienst radiologie van het bestaande ziekenhuis met een NMR. De inplanting van de NMR impliceerde een aantal beperkingen aangezien de NMR diende gebouwd in annex aan de dienst radiologie, in een zone gelegen naast het operatiekwartier en boven de bestaande uitrit van de parking van het ziekenhuis. De uitbreiding omvat een lokaal voor NMR, een bedieningslokaal met naastgelegen protocol en een wachtzaal met een aantal kleedkamers met voorbereidingsruimte. Andere werkzaamheden voor dit ziekenhuis zijn een haalbaarheidsstudie voor de polykliniek, de uitbreiding van het bestaande daghospitaal en een studie voor de uitbreiding van de diensten spoed en intensieve zorgen.

Concomitantly with the renovation of the hospital, the specialists' association, vzw SVET, commissioned Dexia Bank to build a consultation building. The doctors wish to accommodate their own practice on site, next to the hospital, but at the same time, the building has to be completely separate from the hospital. Over a 12-calendar month construction period, the entire building was built and finished. In order to optimize user comfort, while limiting the E level, the building was conceived with concrete core activations that are connected to heat pumps using a thermal storage installation. The building's compact nature enabled a fully glazed facade. Fixed sunscreen panels were placed 60 cm in front of the glass line. This facade concept combines a visual impact with a sufficient amount of privacy and anonymity. At the same time, the user can enjoy expansive views of the outside world, without suffering as a result of the associated heat.

Fase 3 beoogt de integratie van de partiële daghospitalisatie en de ziekenhuisschool in het volledige ziekenhuisconcept. Het respecteert de geïntegreerde werking van de partiële hospitalisatie, en omvat hierbij de medische activiteiten, de pluridisciplinaire revalidatie, de verpleegzorg, en het onderwijs. Het bouwconcept is aangepast aan de behoeften van het kind. Hieronder wordt verstaan: mogelijkheid in- en outdoor activiteiten; spel- en rustfaciliteiten; oriëntatie ondersteunende structuur; polyvalente groepslokalen met mogelijkheid van kleinschaligheid en geborgenheid; kind- en gezinsvriendelijke inrichting; aandacht voor veiligheid; sanitair en meubilair op maat van het kind. Het concept en de infrastructuur moet het streven naar autonomie van de kinderen ondersteunen, bevorderen en stimuleren: aangepast aan rolstoelgebruik en andere hulpmiddelen; voldoende circulatieruimte, steunpunten op verschillende hoogten, zorgfaciliteiten, transfermogelijkheden, automatisatie en/of gebruiksvriendelijkheid van de verschillende functies: sanitair, toegangen, verlichting,... De basisstructuur voor kinderen (verblijf-, therapie-, verzorgingslokalen en sanitair) is zoveel mogelijk gescheiden van deze voor volwassenen. De logistieke infrastructuur, de personeelsvoorzieningen, de administratieve en de medico-technische diensten zijn gemeenschappelijk voor ziekenhuis en partiële hospitalisatie / school. De verdere ontsluiting van de campus, de omgevings- en groenaanleg staan in het licht van de revalidatie en ontspanningsmogelijkheden, geboden aan de patiënt. De bouw is modulair en moet polyvalent gebruik van de lokalen toelaten.
